DCA is looking for an experienced Psychosocial Support Project Officer to implement DCA Syria’s activities for Psychosocial Support (PSS). The project forms an integrated part of a larger DCA intervention, which currently includes Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Risk Education (RE) activities. PSS activities will be implemented by the PSS Project Officer.
The PSS Project Officer will be responsible for designing and conducting a needs assessment which will set the pace and direction for DCA’s PSS intervention in Syria (all regions, if possible) in 2016 and beyond. Possible areas include activities in schools with children, training for teachers, workshops for adults, beautification activities in areas heavily damaged during conflict and special events such as photography competitions.
The PSS Project Officer will also work closely with the DCA Learning Lab to design and test a PSS internet and smartphone tool.
Given the context of the Syrian conflict, skills and experience working with and through partners in areas inaccessible to DCA staff are crucial to the position, as is the ability to liaise and coordinate with relevant authorities.
We are looking for
- Experience working with national partner organisations including ability to assess capacities and address organisational and staff development needs as well as planning and coordination of partner activities in a participatory manner
- Experience working with providing PSS to vulnerable populations in (post) conflict areas
- Experience with at-risk populations
- Educational background in psychosocial support
- Ability to develop the capacity of DCA national staff and national partners (both governmental and non-governmental) to conduct PSS activities
- Experience in conducting needs assessments for Psychosocial Support
- A keen ability to develop and implement monitoring and evaluation plans for partner based implementation where in country DCA staff do not have access
- Proven skills in advocacy work and a strong sense of diplomacy
- Previous experience working with EU funding and an understanding of project management, including financial and logistical aspects as well as recording and analysis of data
- Cultural sensitivity and understanding of the political and cultural context in Syria
- Fluency in written and spoken English is essential, fluency in Arabic desirable
- Proven experience of living and working under arduous conditions
- Willingness to work in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic team
- Photographic skills desirable
